The US Department of Defense announced on 8 April that the aircraft carrier group Carl Vinson, including a USS Nimitz-class carrier and several warships, is heading towards North Korean waters.

The US action is a response to recent North Korea's provocations, including numerous tests of ballistic missiles, and confirms the recent statement by Donald Trump that the US is ready to deal with Pyongyang's North Korean nuclear threat even without the assistance of Beijing. US President shows that he is not afraid to take action against countries that violate international standards, which he also confirmed with the attack against the Syrian airbase. The US action does not only demonstrate a commitment to intervene but also shows support for its regional allies, namely South Korea and Japan, which recently supported the US in the South China Sea. During a two-day meeting in Florida, President Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping agreed on stronger cooperation in dealing with North Korea's missile and nuclear development. Despite extending sanctions against North Korea, Beijing still remains its closest ally.
