US and Ukraine to cooperate on cybersecurity
- 19.12.2017 11:38
On 14 December, the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US House of Representatives passed legislation on cybersecurity cooperation between the United States and Ukraine. If the House passes the act, the US will help in securing the Ukrainian government's computer networks and the country's critical infrastructure systems. US government also plans to help Ukraine reduce its dependence on Russian ICT technologies and engage in international cooperation.
Ukraine, whose cybersecurity efforts are also supported by NATO, has been the victim of repeated large-scale cyber attacks on critical infrastructure in recent years. Several ransomware infections also broke out on its territory but were conceived as sabotage attempts, rather than financially motivated crimes, and experts are expecting further attacks. The Ukrainian authorities link these activities to the Russian Federation, which is also suspected of repeated cyber attacks against the US.
